School Leader Speech

Kumusta, Kia Ora and greetings to all, my name is Giovanni and I want to be, and I am capable of being, your 2020 Head Boy or Manaiakalani Leader for Panmure Bridge School. I am a confident speaker when it comes to presenting in front of a crowd or a partner, and I am a wet day monitor which means I look after the little kids at morning tea or lunch when it rains. One of my goals this year is getting all of the silver care award badges (Confidence, attitude and excellence and innovation). I can represent our school with pride and I have what it takes to become a successful head boy for Panmure Bridge School 2020.
                 ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Today we had to present our speeches to 2 staff members in our school. The speech was for a leader role. I chose to be a head boy or a manaiakalani leader. I also presented in front of the other students that wanted to take on a role. I was a bit nervous because I was going to present in front of 11 people. The teachers would judge the speeches and will announce the new leaders of Panmure Bridge School 2020 on prize giving day. I actually enjoyed watching and listening to others present their speeches because it made me confident to speak too. This was a scary and nervous thing to do, but it was actually easy and fun.

A shoe's life

Today our class made a story about a shoes life. I was working with Matthew for this activity. We had to sit back to back on the floor. We have a lot of writing about this story. We used Personifacation and the 5 senses to help us in the making of the story. Then we made a story about a shoes life like how the feet might smell. This is our story that we wrote:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I can't believe I have to do this again. It’s going to be a hard day. I don’t want to have to smell the odor from my owners socks, as he walks for 5 hours. EWWWW! Gross I can taste the sweat dripping from inside his socks. Oh well, I hope I get replaced some day. I see the dairy. OOH, is that chocolate I can smell, yum. Finally I can see home, I get to relax before another hard days of work. Oh no. I can see I pile of wet mud on the ground. NOO! I hate this so much. We get inside, I SCREAM! “go in the direction of the washing machine,”as he slowly walked. YEAH! I can now have a nice shower. I hope this doesn’t happen again? But, if it does, ill run away.

Horrible Histories DLO

For the last 2 - 1 weeks we were focusing on the past. We read a book from horrible histories and it was about Henry VIII and Terrible Tudors. Then we created a kahoot which is a quiz game, to test the skills of the students in our classroom to see if they can get the right answer. Our quiz had 10 questions. When we presented to our class we showed them our introduction and then did our quiz. It was really fun because I got to make a quiz and I learnt a lot about this book.

Foodprint

Image result for foodprint

Yestarday Mr Ogilvie (a teacher in our school) had his friend come in to talk about how she started her courier. Her name is Michal Garvey. She has started a company called foodprint. She has been spending 2 years planning and has only been open for 6 months. The app is about shops sending food that they don't want instead of wasting it. Then the app foodprint sells the items or food for half price so it doesn't go to waste. Bread has been wasted about 1/3 every year. 250 cafes supply the food to meet customer demand. She had a connection in not wastng food. This was a great opportunity for us because it will help us later on with our market day.

Current events

New Zealand News Articles

Each day, newspaper editors make desisions everyday about which current event stories they will run.  We explored that different types of current events that are happening in NZ, thought about why the story made the news and plotted the location on a google map. We were creating a Map DLO that shows differet types of Articles that happend in New Zealand. The types of articles we were to find were Timeliness, Relevance, Magnitude, Unexpectedness, Impact, Reference to someone iportant or famous, Oddity, Conflict, Reference to something negative, Continuity, Emotions and Progress. The most shocking one I found was the measles outbreak with more that 1,000 people affected. My Group (Matthew, Karlos and I) found 7 news articles that took place in New Zealand. Our Task was to find current events that were happening or that happened in New Zealand so that we could grow our knowledge about what has been happening or what has happened in New Zealand.

Market Day Maths Game

Today for maths we played a market day maths game. It was about income, balance, discounts, profits and practicing for our market day. We spent $115 on renting to sell on the market day game. I created a slide that tells us how a need or want that I have, been met through a product or service. A product is an item that you can pick up or buy. A service is like paying someone to mow the lawns for you and paying them back. An example of a want is a triple burger and an example of a need is water. An example of a product is a bottle of soap. The difference between a product and a service is that you can pick up a product and a service is paying someone for something you can't buy at a supermarket or a shop.

Using Commas: Cultural Celebration

Cultural Celebration Writing

‘Let me tell you about’ my favorite cultural celebration. My favorite celebration is halloween. I am always excited for halloween because I get lollies. I get home from school, then get ready in my scary costume. Halloween is in the afternoon on Thursday, October 31. My mum does special effects on my face as a scary character. I like zombies, so she makes me as a zombie with an arrow in its eye. She needed fake blood, make-up and an arrow. After my mum does my face I am ready to scare people.

We get into the car, and go to different places around Auckland, Panmure, so I can scare people. I scare people, say trick or treat, and get a full bag of lollies thinking, Halloween is the best celebration, it’s my favorite. I come home, eat lollies, and enjoy the rest of the night with my family.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Today we were writing about a Cultural Celebration to practice using commas. We use commas when we need a rest in a sentence, list things, Seperate Dialogue, City / Suburb, Before FANBOYS, Date / Year and, Introductory words. Provocation

A provocation is an action or a speech that triggers strong feelings about a topic. Recently a mojor supermarket chain announced it will no longer sell energy drinks to kids under the age of 16 years old. My opinion is recorded in my DLO that shows both perspecgives. What is you opinion ans why?

Explanation: Should NZ Ban Plastic Straws?

I think NZ should ban plastic straws because it is harming our sea creatures. There are plastic in our oceans and plastic straws are part of this pollution. This is bad, This is terrible, this is outrageous. Would you like it if you had a pond filled with fish and saw one of those fish going towards a dangerous straw meal? That ‘s Ridiculous.

Plastic straws can harm our sea animals which is bad. If a sea animal eats a plastic straw then people will have to do surgery to get the straw out. There was a sea turtle that had a straw stuck up its nose. A man on a boat came by as he saw the poor turtle, he then had to pull the straw out. Out of all the plastic in our oceans, 0.025 percent / % of that are straws. Wow that's a lot of straws. If a straw gets into an animal's digestive system, the animal could choke which can cause breathing problems or even sadly, death.

NZ should ban plastic straws because other countries like the United States have one of the worlds biggest plastic straw pollution. NZ shouldn’t be the country that is named after the most plastic straw polluted country in the world. It’s disgusting to see straws people used to drink and left on the beach and washed out to shore. Scientists had estimated about 3.8 billion straws pollute the ocean.

Imagine going to the fish and chip shop. You have an order for chips and a fish. You get the food and open it. It has plastic straws in it. How would you feel what would you do? What if it was a hot day and you wanted to go to the beach. The beach is filled up with straws. How would you feel if you couldn’t go for a swim? Because the ocean is as big as 361.9 billion square kilo meters the plastic straws would be about 1/200 of that.

NZ is a country that is surrounded by the ocean. What if there were no more sea animals near our country. What would you do to save the sea life from plastic straws? This is why I believe that we should ban plastic straws. This is why you should agree.

Most people like me wern't able to finish our games, but Mrs Ferguson was kind enough to finish our games and drop them off. This session (Graphics) was cool and I had fun designing things.

Water Filter

At the end of term 3 LS2 made water filters. We researched about how much water we use in our house and we were all suprised. Then we went to collect dirty water so we can see if we can filter the dirty water, into clean water. Our group had the most clean water which had a rating of 1 which 0 was the highest. We all had fun and enjoyed this activity.

Point Of View: Plastic Straws

This week for writing we were creating a DLO that explains both perspectives of why plastic strwas should or shouldn't be banned. Nevaeh and I agreed to work together for this activity. We researched both sides of the perspectives and came up with what our opinion would be to this. Nevaeh and I came up with our opinion which was why we should ban plastic straws. We then were to explain what a fact is, a provocation, an opinion, a perspective and why it is important to say why you have the opinion you have. A fact is a peice of information that is true. An opinion is what you think in your point of view. A prespective is a point of view. It is important to say why you have the opinion you have because it could be a good opinion or someone or some people might agree to what your opinion is.

Tech Week 5

This week at tech I was still making my game board so as everyone else. I was making snakes and ladders. I asked Mrs Ferguson (My Tech Teacher) if I could paint my board for my game. I only painted 15 squares with red out of 50 now which means it's going to take a bit long, but aventualy ill get there. That also means I need patience so when I complete it, it will look good and when I finish painting I will make the snakes and the ladders out of card board and glue it onto the board and Ill be almost finish accept i'll need to make my game characters. This week at tech was great and next session I think we will be doing the same which is doing our boards.

Speech: Why games shouldn't have cheat codes

This week we (LS2) presented our speeches. The people that wanted to enter the speech competition were to present in front of the class as practice in front of an audience and the others got to present in groups. I entered in the competition and presented in front of the class. If you entered the competition and your are picked for the competition, you and 2 other peoople would go meaning there are only 3 spots. I kind of liked doing speeches when we did this. Here is my speech below:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kia ora my name is Giovanni and I will be persuading you why I believe games shouldn’t have cheat codes. Do you think you’re a winner if you have used codes that you know will get you to the next level? I think you’re just fooling yourself.

85% of the games around the world have cheat codes. These codes are meant to be used when you complete the game so you can go on to explore and find more game secrets.

If you use cheats during a game against people not using them online, you could get banned for using cheats which means you can’t play anymore.

Lastly if you use cheat codes on a game it might be because you don’t know what the point of the game is. The point of the game is to win and try your best. If you cheat then your not really improving your skills. Where’s the fun in winning if you’ve won by cheating.

Some games have adventures, some are exciting and sometimes games can actually be more fun than you think without cheat codes.

Tech session 3

This week at tech we were starting to make our game boards. I was making snakes and ladders. I told Mrs Ferguson (My Tech Teacher) all my game character and the measurments for my game board so she can cut out my board of wood. Once I got my game board I started to measure my lines for my 100 squares. The measurment of my board was 300 x 300 mm. When I recived my wooden board base I started to paint it. I couldn't remember the' colors I chose for my board so I went with red and white. I only painted 4 squares with red out of 50 which means it's going to to take a long time. That also means I need patience so when I complete it, it will look good and when I finish painting I will make the snakes and the ladders out of card board and glue it onto the board and Ill be almost finish accept i'll need to make my game characters.

Swimming Session 3

Yesterday at swimming we were learning how to breath when your in the water and we were practicing our streamline and free style. We first made our safe entry into the pool and started off with our stream line. Next we did free style back to the start. Then we used the kick boards to swim to the end and back. We then practiced how to breath in the water, but I wasn't able to do this because I strugle on going to my side and getting my head out of the water so that I can breath. This session was great and now I look forward so going there agin and try to breath in the water next time.

Swimming Session 2

This week for swimming we were learning about the different types of swimming styles. In this class we learned about stream line, dolphin diving, breast stroke and backward swimming. We first started with the stream line. I wasn't good at that because I can't hold my breath for long and I don't know how to breath when I am under water. Next we did the free style (Any swimming style). Then we did the dolphin diving and then the pencil dive. I had a wonderful time there and can't wait to go back becuse I am excited for what we are going to learn next.

Kiwi Can WK1 T3

This week at kiwi can we were learning about Resilience and our focus was on emotions. Resilience is bouncing back from difficulties and never giving up. Emotions are something you feel (happy, sad and more). We first started the session with with our energizer which was a bunch of challenges to do. Next we talked about how emotions affect how we feel, how we can tell what you are feeling and how we know when someone is feeling that way. Next we had our activity which was a roleplay. My group (Jayden, Jonathan, Rhys, Matthew, Karlos, Nevaeh and I) were doing a role play that we were talking to each other when we were asked to talk about work. Lastly we were looking at our points which I forgot. We had fun yesterday and I can't wait to go back again.

Tech Week 10

Today at Tech we were focusing on finishing our card game design. I chsnged my mind and wanted to make the board game snakes and ladders because I found that cooler. When we were finished Mrs Ferguson asked us to look at a projecter on the white board to show us how to make a pacman, banana or a moon looking the same by just using 3 cylinders. Next we made a 2 cylinder shape with our first name and last name initials on it. Then we had our challenge to make our teacher (Mrs Anderson) by using shapes only. Lastly it was almost time to go and I got up to making the upper body by using a cone or a square. This week at Tech was fun because I got to make a person with shapes on tinkercad.com and because I finished making my card game design (Snakes and Ladders).

Maths Game

This maths game is based on showing and teaching you about fractions. This maths game his a rules page so you know what and not what to do like not cheating or not using a calculator. I have questions, Incorrect and Correct parts in my maths game. What I did find challenging in creating this was to fix all the broken links because it was confusing and hard to remember what slide to link. I then got at least 3 people to test my game and the feedback I got was to add a link back from the need help slide because they couldn't go back to the question they were on after watching the need help video. This was a really fun, enjoying and great activity. Thank you Mrs anderson for letting us do this.

HIIT

Today we (LS2) had our last HIIT session. We were focusing on different types of circuits to build our body strength and to increase our heart rate. It was also a buddy challenge and I was partners with Karlos. I found it hard to do the do the press ups because my arm joints had started to hurt and lasted for a very long time. What I found easy was the mountain climbers because I was able to moce my legs a lot. Lastly we did a little more exercising and stretching to a song called bring Sally up. It was a squat challenge. A big thank you to Mr Ogilvie for taking his time to do these HIIT sessions with us.

Rhythm Interactive's Visit To PBS

Today Johnny from rhythm interactive visited our whole school. He was here to tell us about drumming and how together we can make a change. A drum is a type of instrument. Then we started with a simple beat using the phrase he said. We (Learning Space 2) buddied up and helped another class (Junior class) so that they would understand how to drum. Johnny was drumming with a drum called a djembe drum (African drum). We were listening to and following a beat / pattern / rhythm that johnny made with his djembe. Johnny said to us "if you can say it you can drum it" which meant that if you can say it then you can drum what was said (speak and copy). Somethine I found fun was making a funky beat because I got to go crazy while drumming. What I found challenging was trying to do the long drum beats. I liked today when Johnny from rhythm interactive came to our school. I enjoyed it because I never drummed before and because I learnt some new beats that I can make with a drum. Here is a link to the rhythm interactive site: Rhythm Interactive Site.

Tech Reflection

Today at Tech we were drawing our designs for our game that we are going to start making next week. I am making a number moving game. You have to spin the number wheel and what ever number it lands on then that is how many spaces your character goes forward towards the finish line. Next week I will be starting to make this 3d game and I think that if I make it 3d then I can make the charactersa and the number wheel 3d. The board where the spaces, finish and start line is will be flat (2d). This game will be good for me because I like to vs people using this game. This tech session was all about planning the game and materials needed to make a 3d or 2d board game.

Kiwi Can WK 8

This week at kiwi can we were learning about integrity. We first started the session with our energiser was a game where we had to protect the person behind us and the person in the front had to tag the other person at the back of someone. I was with Rhys and we were first blind folded then we had our eyes open to see which was harder or challenging. Next we talked about how integrity helps us understand why we shouldn't do bad things. Then we played our activity called trust fall. It was when we were hanging on each other then we (our partners) had to lean back and we both had to trust other. After that we had a GKQ (General Knowledge Question) Game. We went around a circle and I beat 4 people and lost at the 5th person. We were kind of tired at kiwi can, but I really enjoyed it.

What to do with fish?

What should we do with fish that we catch? Do we leave it or do we take it? People aren't being respectful and taking more fish. Well an interesting fact is that you should pick up a fish that you catch with a wet hand towel. This is because touching it with your hands could lead to taking off their coating which keeps them alive when they’re out of the water. Another interesting fact is that if you catch a fish and bring it and it is under or oversized then you could get a fine or even get your boat confiscated. Well this is why you should know what to do with fish.

The thing that you need to know is that you only take the amount of fish you can eat. Taking all the fish can lead to fish being instinct. Some fish catchers like to look for birds because the birds can tell you where fish are because they can see fish and will go down to the water to catch some. Sometimes you see plastic around in the waters which fish could eat so you can pick up that plastic. Another thing is If you go fishing and catch a fish you will need to make sure that you have a fish ruler. The reason is that if you don’t have a fishing ruler then you can’t measure your fish to make sure it is the correct size to take it. A snapper (fish) has to be 30 cm to be able to take it.

Whatever you do don’t take under and over sized fish because you could be taking away most of the fish in our oceans. If you take an undersized fish then they won’t have time to grow and won’t have a long lasting life in the water. Same for the oversized fish, but if you take oversized fish then you are taking away the opportunity for them to breed. If they breed then they can make more fish for our oceans.

Taking under or over sized fish can be a problem. If people keep catching and taking any sized fish it can lead to a problem which can include depleting the number of fish in our oceans or even not being able to have foods that include fish.

Ballet

Yesterday we (LS2) got a free chance to do ballet. Thanks to Mrs Jones she gave us an opportunity to ask a ballet dancer Chloe to come from Wellington to Auckland to teach us ballet for the whole 2nd block of school. We were excited for this to happen because no one in this class had done ballet before. I was kind of shy to do this because I thaught it was going to be a different ballet, but I was completly wrong. We all had fun during this ballet session. We were learning about different swan moves as we were going to be using dance moves we learnt to put together a ballet white swan black swan dance. I found the middle part where we had to roll over and get into the chicken position because I wasn't able to keep up in time. What I found fun was the ending when we got to get into some posing positions and my group was in a line from smallest to biggest and we were doing the flying position. We would like to say a big thanks to Chloe form RNZB (Royale, New Zealand, Ballet). We really enjoyed this and appreciate this opportunity.

Tech Session 3

Last week Friday we (Year 7's) went to tech for our 3rd session. We were talking about games that could be possible to create. My group of 3 (Pua, Jayden and I) came up with the games we thought would be possible to make which were a maze or tic tac toe / noughts and crosses. We decided that we would like to make a maze more than making noughts and crosses. After that Mrs Ferguson told us this site called tinkercad.com. It is a site where you can learn about 3D designs. I am on a stage called making holes. Next week we will be using this site for tech because we might need this site for making a 3d game. I think that this time for tech we might be making a 3d game.

Waltzing Matilda Inferring

Last week Thursday we were drawing a picture of what you see in your mind about the waltzing matilda poem. I drew a detailed picture that explains what the story looks like exactly. We then drew our pictures of the poem and we showed each other which one had more detail then the other. I had the billabong (Water hole), a coolibah tree, a swagman (Seasonal worker) under the coolibah tree,  His tucker bag (Food bag) and him singing and some little fish jumping out and back in the billabong. This activity was meant for everyone to infer. For this activity we were Inferring (Taking what we knew) to draw a picture of what you think the poem waltzing matilda looks like. This activity really helped me imagine what the poem waltzing matilda looks like.

Waltzing Matilda Summary

L.I to create a summary of a poem called waltzing matilda
Last week for reading, we started an activity. The activity was to read the poem Waltzing Matilda by Banjo Paterson. After reading the poem, we needed to get into pairs (I was with Jack), and analyse the poem. With this information we then needed to go through a couple of questions. This included which version of the poem did you prefer, the original or new version? What do you think the poem was about? And what Literary Devices could the poet use to paint a vivid image in our heads? Once those questions were answered, the final step was to create a DLO that would explain what the poem was about in a summary. To help keep our ideas in order, a template DLO was given to us which we could use to store our ideas. For this activity I worked Jack, and we had a lot of fun.

Strengthening connections to maths language

Today my group (Me, Jayden and Jonathan) and I worked on this Maths vocabulary activity. It was made by Whaea Donna to help kids understand what some maths words meant. Mrs Anderson asked us what a plane is. Everyone thought it was a flying vehicle but because she was talking about the flat surface plane, all of us were wrong. This was a really good way to show us that words might mean something different in maths. If we didn't know a word Jayden would go on the explore tool to find out the meaning. I would drag the ones I knew and the ones that Jayden and Jonathan didn't know into the bottom section. Jonathan was helping me by dragging the words that go in the top section. After we finished it all of us had a good understanding of most of the maths words. Jayden, Jonathan and I worked collaborativly together as a group to complete this activity.

Student Led Conference

Yesterday Wednesday was the schools student led conference. I brang my mum to my class. My brother Kaleb also had a little look in my class as well. The student led conference was about bringing a family member to your classroom to show them the work that you created so far this year at school. I showed my mum my wooden train that I made at tech and the other work on the wall (Reading, Writing, Maths, Inquiry, Science Experiments and Some Others). My mum really enjoyed the work I created so far this year and She is proud of me and so am I. Just before we went to go to my other brother Leroy's class to do his student led conference I got to show my teacher (Mrs Anderson) my leopard gecko lizard. She said that it was pretty cool. Maybe on a Thursday sometime during this year I will be able to show my class the lizard. This student led conference was actually cool and entertaining showing my mum my work.

Tech Session 2

Today was our (Year 7s) 2nd session in Mrs Ferguson's Art class. We were learning about shapes, tones and 3d shapes. We first finished our toys that make us think DLO. Next we got a peice of paper, pencil and a ruler. Then we used our pencil to find 3 shades from it. Mrs Ferguson explained that the tone depends on how much you press on the pencil or color you are using. After that we drew a 3d cube. Then we used the light, medium and hard shades to fill in each side (3 sides which was enough for 1 each). If we could do that we could carry on with the next part which we could use a color to shade light, medium and hard to see the next out come. Lastly it was time to go. So we thanked Mrs Ferguson and ran to the bus in the cold wet weather which was quite funny.

Literary Devices

Here is the link to my DLO: Click Here
Today I had finished my work of Literary Devices. I made 6 literary devices and they are Simile, Hyperbole, Metaphor, Personification, Alliteration and Onomatopoeia. Next I then made a simple explanation of what each literary device is. For an example a simile is a description of 2 objects that uses like or as (Usain Bolt is like a Cheetah).  Then I made some headings for each literary device so people would know which is which. Lastly I went to find some images of each literary device so then I could make my information cool.

Gymnastics Lesson 4

This week at gymnastics we learnt about trying new things and giving everyting a go. My group (Sandra, Mele, Fui, Victoria, Pua, Julian and I) were starting at circut 2. We had the beam which we had to walk backwords, walk forwards and jump up, The forward roll on the lower beam, cart wheels and forward roll off the stage onto a buch of mats. I tried everything, but didn't manage to do a proper cart wheel. Next we went on to circut 3. Circut 3 had the activites spring board forward, trampoline, backword roll. I tried all of them and completed them all. Lastly we went on to circut 1. It had these activities wall stand, swing stairs and two more activities that I forgot the name of. I found the cart wheel challenging and I had a lot of fun.

Who Am I?

Today I made a new google drawing about who am I? My who am I includes an avatar of me, my 2 favorite games, my favorite cartoon, my favorite clothing brand, my favorite fruit, my favorite meal, my favorite character from my favorite cartoon, my game console and my favorite car.
The point of this activity was to try to create a breif drscription of yourself by using images of things you like.

Sicence Investigation #2

Today Mrs Wells came back to our class to carry on with the science investigation us (Alex, Giovanni, Jack, Julian, Mele, Nyjah Fui and Victoria). Today was the day where we started the investigation. We had steps we needed to follow to have planted our plant with our items. Instead of me doing crushed candy I changed to doing crushed chocolate. I put 200 ml of soil and 20 grams of chocolate into each pot. That lead us to 400 ml of soil and 40 grams of chocolate altogether. One thing we didn't control was worms! That was unfortunaley unavalible, but maybe the worms will help the plant grow bigger and stronger. Next we got an empty plastic cup and measured 20 ml of water and put it into the empty cup. Then I marked where the water was in the cup so every Monday, Wednesday and Friday when we water our plants I can put water in the cup up to the mark that I made. Then it was time for Mrs Wells to go so we cleaned up the table. Reflection: I really enjoyed this time with Mrs Wells doing the science investigation. I can't wait for the next 2 weeks to see what will happen to everyones plants and can't wait for Mrs Wells to come back.
