Summer Learning Journey Fishing False Teeth

For this Summer Learning Journey activity, the task was to read the story (The Fishing False Teeth). In this story, a fisherman named Cor Stoop lose his teeth, when leaning to the side of a paddle boat, when having the sea sickness feeling. The other guy (Taxi driver) faked news, saying the fish had huge teeth, but got caught later. Read our DLO to find out what actually happens:

L.I: to get a greater understanding of the text

For today's the first Summer Learning Journey task, we were to read a story called Fishing False Teeth. It's a story about fake news, a fish with the mans fake teeth. This story was quite funny in my opinion. The first part was to read the story, as it helps you understand each part, and helps you get an idea of what the story is about. Next was to fill in the blanks. Who is the character? What part did they play? What was their outcome? We managed to figure out what each characters part were. Lastly we watched a video with no talking, but laughing from when the fisherman drops his teeth in the water when leaning on one side of the boat from sea sickness. I was working with a room 5 partner named Jebrael who's a year 4 student. I was helping him with this weeks couple of Summer Learning Activities, because it helps him in the future with blogging, commenting, and taking part in the next Summer Learning Journey events. This activity was quite fun, and challenging. Something we learnt new was that you can get onto the news for faking fish teeth being big. Something we found interesting is making the comic with the video.

What would be the first thing you would do, if you knew there were fake teeth inside the fish?

Summer Learning Journey Blog Commenting

L.I to create a quality blog comment

Today for another Summer Learning Journey task, we were learning about blog commenting. We were to create a quality blog comment for the task. I decided to comment on a friends blog named Matthew, he did the same work as us. To make a quality blog comment, you need to greet them and say their name. Next talk about what you liked, and keep your comment positive.

Summer Learning Journey Nano Girl Challenge

L.I To collect materials needed to successfully complete our weekly superpower building missions with Nano Girl.

This morning LS2 worked in groups with our Year 4 students to help them create their first Summer Learning Journey blog posts. PBS are still at school this week so finding some of the materials we needed for our treasure hunt was easy. Our challenge is going to be able to find all the materials we need at home now. Something I found this activity fun because I got to find materials. I am looking forward to being able to blog at home during the holidays. What would you use instead of a paper towel roll?

Christmas Board Game

L.I to create a digital board game for the junior students
Yesterday I created a board game in the theme of Christmas. It was for the Junior students. The junior students were very nice and were going to present some of their work for us, so we decided to create a digital board game for the juniors in return for being awesome. I wanted to make a snakes and ladders, because I like that game, and I could be creative. If you land on a santa hat, you have to go forward 3 spaces. If you land on a candy cane, you go back 3 spaces. If you land on a yellow candy, you go forward 10 spaces, if you land on the bottom of the ladder you go to the top of it, and of you land on the head or top of the green snake, you have to go to the bottom of it. I loved making this game, because it was fun, and I got to play it with the juniors.

Operation Christmas Drop

L.I to write a summary of the story behind the Operation Christmas Drop in your own words
This week for reading, we were learning about OCD (Operation Christmas Drop). It is a misson where different militay people drop crates off to islands that have nothing. It all started 68 years ago, and has still been running, where a B-29 aircrew saw native villagers on an island waving at them, and the aircrew dropped a crate to help them. I loved learning about this because people (Military and Volunteers) like to help fundraise and pack supplies like food, and clothes for them. The OCD is still running and people can donate to help the volunteers purchase the equipment for the supply drop. This helpes both becausde the military practice supply drops, as well as the villagers being able to help themselves live with the supply crates. What I found interesting about OCD is that each crate is packed 1 week before the drop, and weighs about 250kg.

Giovanni Design Evaluation

L.I to create a christmas decoration

These past 3 weeks, we have been learning and designing a christmas design for the schools christmas tree. We first found designs we liked, for an example christmas presents, and put them on a google drawing so we had a rough idea of what we were going to make. We next drew them on a planner on a peice of paper, to see if it was in the measurment of the clients acpected measurment. We then practiced stitching by stitching a game of knots and crosses. This helped us gain knowledge of stitching, so we know what to do when we stitch our designs. Lastly we drew our designs on the felt, cut it our, and swewd it together and put stuffing (cotton) inside it. This was fun and cool because I love learning how to do new things, and something I would change is the equipment used to cut out the felt, becuse the felt was a hard material.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
List three positives about your product and three possible improvements in the table below to help you reflect on your decoration design.

Positives
Improvements
Using traditional colours
Make stitching smaller
Adding effects
Make edges sharper
Easy to handle
Make design bigger

What would you say are the strengths of your product? The strengths of my product was the look, and the feeling of the design (the cotton).

Does your product meet your original criteria? yes How? By following the specifications ( 3D effects, 10cm)

Did you change anything during the making process? yes What? Added extra 3D effects to the design.

Was it hard to make? yes Why/ why not? It was difficult cutting shapes from the felt

Are you pleased with your finished product? Why? Yes, because we did a good job, and it looks amazing in the end (Looks just like the expected design).

What would you do differently next time? Use a different equipment for cutting out the shapes out from the felt, because the felt was a hard material to cut.

2020 Tech Reflection

I am a year 8 student, and I have been doing tech at Tamaki College for 2 years now. Since tech is only for intermidiate students, I am sadly not able to do tech anymore. Today was our last tech session for the year. I have been doing 4 tech rotations this year. 1 is Metal work, 2 is Robotics, 3 is Graphic Design, 4 is Cooking. I enjoyed all of these tech sessions this year. My 2 favorite tech sessions were Robotics, and Cooking. This is because I am good at programing, and because I like eating food. We (Panmure Bridge School) are so lucky for Tamaki College to let us go to their college to do tech, because I love learning new things, and generating new knowledge. Thank you Tamaki College!

International Current Events

L.I To create a google maps that explains current events around the world

This week for reading we were finding international current events, and plotting them on the map. We ended up with 9 current events. We found all of our current events from a site called Kiwi Kids News. They have events National, World, Sport, and Odd stuff. The aim of this activity was to find out what has or is happening around the world. The creators of this map is Karlos, Matthew, and I. We all worked together to find these. They all had their most interesting thing they found, but the most interesting information I found out, is that a chameleon called the voeltzkow's chameleon. It was last spotted 100 years ago at madagascar, and has been spotted again by people in an expedition. Scientists were so shocked, and only know that they only live in the rainy season. I love doing current events, because I like learning new information.

Last Tech Session

This Friday was our last tech session for the year. The tech rotation we had, was cooking. For our last tech session at cooking, we made sushi. The ingredients were Rice, Nori, Chicken, Yellow Capsicum, Sweet Chilli Sauce, and Mayo. First, we had to shred the chicken, then add Sweet Chilli Sauce, along with the Mayo. This keeps the chicken moist. Next we banged the rice to make it soft, then got our Nori, and put it onto the sushi wodden roller. Next, we put the rice onto the Nori, using water on our hands, so the rice doesn't stick to your hands. You had to fill up 2/3 of the Nori with rice. Then after that, we put the chicken at the end of the rice on the Nori. And then you roll it up using the wodden roller to help make a perfect circle. Lastly you had to cut that roll up into 8 peices. Then you make one more roll, and cut it up, and put it into your lunch box. This was fun, because I enjoyed tech, and I love sushi. A huge thanks to Tamaki College for letting us participate tech sessions at their college, it helped me learn new things, and generate new knowledge.

Art Colouring Book

L.I: To experiment with colours

Art can be made with different colours, to amaze or entertain people. In my photo, the mix of a dark color, and light colors make my picture seem calm. The choice of the light colors of pink and purple along with the background. Since there were flowers, I decided to make the background dark green for the grass. I bring out the dark green, because this isn’t such a light or shiny picture. I like creating, colouring, or drawing pictures because it helps me practice my art skills, and because it's a relaxing hobby. The morning we tried one of this year's kick start Summer Learning Jeourney activities. The purpose of this task wasto expaeiment with colours by mixing colours from the original palette with pop colours. This allowed us to recolours famous paintings or images of landmarks around the world. I chose these 4 art pictures to colour in,because they looked nice.

Te whanau Raukura Preformance

Today, we had a preformance from Te whanau Raukura, at our school today. They preform at the Auckland Museum, and they use taiaha, poi, and te rakau, to explain the Maori elements. At our school, we first had them come in the hall by blowing in an instrument made from a shell. They then started shouting, while making their way to the stage. Next they sang the whaikorero. After that, they sang another song and one of the ladies started using a poi. Then she started to use 4 poi at once. It was so cool, it was like she was the poi, becuse she had really good control with them. Lastly from the preformance, they did the Haka for us. It was powerful. After they did the haka, the kapa haka boys came up to the stage and did the haka back to our preformers, and to us. Then the preformance finished, and one of the ladies Bekah, the one who was good ad poi, came to our class to teach us a game called Pukana. In the game you have to carry on by pointing your hands to another person saying pukana, and if you react but the hands aren't pointing to you, your out. You can also pass it to another person that isn't next to you by saying Aue, and the person you point to, has to say he, and then do the next action of their choice. Something I found interesting, was that they used small sticks to practice their fighting skills. It was fun!

Exploring our National current events

L.I To identify the author's purpose
Authors write for a purpose, they either write to persuade, inform, or to entertain (P.I.E). Each day, newspaper editors arounds the world must make desicions about witch stories they will run. We explored the different types of current events that are happening in New Zealand, thought about why the story made the news and plotted the location on google my maps. Something interesting I found, was that 17 November 2:14 am, yesterday, a cop vehicle was shot at 15 times, during a pursuit. I had fun doing this activity.

The Charge Of Light Brigade

L.I to have a clear understanding about what happened in the crimean war

this week for reading we were learning about the famous war that happened in crimean. This DLO represents the story behind the war and facts about it. We had to work in groups of 3 which then could make us feel more confident when making this and give feedback to each other. The thing that we really liked about this task is how we got to find out interesting things about the war and the people in it. 600 men were in the war and less than 200 people survived. This DLO can give other people a clear picture on what happened, where it happened and more.

Weighty Challenge Maths DLO

L.I to create a DLO about any of the Weighty Maths Challenges

This week we were put into groups for maths. In these groups, we made up names that represent ourselves. The name we came up with was The Multiplying 7’s, because we had seven people in our group, and we all love to multiply. In the multiplying 7’s, Victoria was our leader, and the remaining people in our group were Makaili, Karlos, Lilly, Afa, Ong, and I. We put all of our opinions together to come with different solutions to solve our challenges, and we would ask questions if we didn't understand. We are all supposed t0 participate so we all can have friendship even though we haven't worked together. Something I found interesting, was the ammount of animals that weigh the same as an elephant, because we found 6 heavy animals that weigh the same as an elephant altogether. I enjoyed this activity, because I love working in groups, and Maths is my favorite subjct.

Mixed Mathematics Game

L.I to create a Maths Game for others to test and play

This week, our class started creating maths games, for others to play. I worked with Azatulah, to create our game. We decided to try mixed questions, because a lot of people in our class, have different stratergies to solve different questions. Our list of questions were from easiest, to hardest. We had 10 levels, and if you were really good, you would get to about level 9. We were bored, and decided to add a boss level, which was a proportions and ratios word problem. If you would like to try out our fabulous game, just interact with the slide above. Enjoy!

Lowest Common Multiple

L.I to create a DLO that explains Lowest Common Multiple
This week for maths, we were learning about the Lowest Common Multiple, and the Highest Common Factor. Our group decided to explain what the Lowesr Common Multiple is. The Lowest Common Multiple is the 2 lowest multiples that are the same. For an example the lowest common multiple of 5 and 4 are 20. Because 4 doesn't have 5, 10, or 15 in it, but does have 20. Which means 20 is the lowest multiple that is the same. An easy stratergy for this, is to basicly multiply the 2 numbers that you have to find the lowest common multiple of, and you will get your answer. I like this, because I love maths, and I didn't know about the lowest common multiple, so I learnt something new.

Pollution Explanation

Learning Intention: To write an explanation about a topic
This week for writing, we were practicing writing explanations. We were making sure we know what to do, so when it comes to testing, I will make a powerful text. I chose the topic pollution in our oceans, because there are a lot of rubbish in our oceans, and no one is doing anything about it. I wrote about the sea life, the oceans, and why it's important to take care. This was awesome and fun.

Pollution In Our Oceans

Due to our careless action, rubbish ends up in our oceans. As a result, our environment and sea life are harmed. This is not acceptable! Right now there are about 17.6 billion pounds (equivalent to 57,000 blue whales) in our oceans today. Around 700 different sea life species are affected by pollution. Would you like it if your home was jammed with rubbish?...

The majority of plastic that lies on the ground ends up in drains which lead to oceans, lakes and rivers. The most affected sea creature by the pollution is a sea turtle. Over 1,000 sea turtles die each year from digesting plastic waste. Sea animals are really important, and they keep the ocean active. Picture our oceans and sea creatures, soon there will be nothing but pollution roaming in our waters. Because there is so much pollution in our oceans today, there are people who are ignoring the rubbish bins.

When your rubbish ends up in our oceans, it usually takes 1,000 years to biodegrade, which is just insane. Biodegrade is when something dissolves, or breaks down. Soon our sea life will be gone, and our oceans will become a dumping ground. Why isn’t anyone doing anything about it? Do you realise there is almost more pollution than animals in the ocean, they can become extinct really soon. Scientists have researched and discovered that 50 - 80 % of all life on earth is found in our waters. This means if we don’t take care of our oceans sea life will be gone.

If the oceans become polluted, it will affect the air we breathe. If the ocean is contaminated, it can’t produce the oxygen (The oceans produce half of the oxygen we breathe). If you still don’t think oceans are important then maybe this will change your mind. Our ocean transports heat from the equator, to the poles regulating our weather patterns. You see the ocean is the most important life on earth right now.

Wait… That’s right. Pollution is still wandering around in our oceans. If we don’t act now, the actions we make will affect our environment and future. So if you don’t want any of this to happen to our precious oceans, pick up rubbish, and please start putting it away properly.

Inertia

This week for reading we were learning about Inertia, the part of science that describes the changes by force, or either being still in rest. Due to force. There are three laws of inertia which are Inertia of Direction, Inertia of Rest and Inertia of Motion. We created a DLO about what Inertia is, and the rules of it. We thought this was really interesting, because we thought it was all just gravity, but there’s more.

Who will get my vote?...

Learning Intention: To decide which political party will get your vote by making an informed choice
To decide which political party I would have vote for, I read a summary of the policies each party wants to introduce. Should they win the election, and the right to form a goverment to run NZ. Doing this allowed me to make an informed decision. If I was 18 I would vote for National because this means if National won the election, Gerry Brownlee would be our member of parliament, and Judith Collins would be the Prime Minister. Something I found interesting is that National has recived an amount of $6,000,000.

DARE to make a choice

LI: To learn about making good choices

Today, we were learning about drugs. A program made by the New Zealand  police called the Dare program, teaches kids about making wise choices. We learnt about drugs being bad, and the effects it has. We also learnt something new about drug classes, A, B, and C. This was interesting, because we thought most drugs were illegal than legal. But only  about ten drugs were illegal, because of the harm, and effects. The first activity we did was sorting our drugs that we thought were legal, and illegal. Next we sorted them in order from most harmful, to harmful. Our most harmful was cocaine, and our least harmful was milo. Next worked together in a group on a scenario activity. There were six scenarios, about kids being involved in drugs or beer. For the activity you were to give a punishment for each situation. The one we found most interesting was number five. Two Seventeen year olds were drinking at a bar. We thought that this was wrong, because you have to be eighteen and over to drink. They are also drinking at a bar, which meant that someone must have given them the alcohol. So we all agreed, and decided that the kids would have a warning, and the owner of the bar (the person who gave them the alcohol) will lose their job, get a fine of $1000, and lose their license. This is a good enough punishment, because the owner should be asking for an id, and should only be selling to people eighteen and over. Lastly we went into partners, and talked about questions that had to do with what we learnt, and about things that surprised us. One thing to remember is that you are the most important person in your world.

Food Technology

Learning Intention: To follow a recipie to make corn fritters
This week for Food Technology, we were making corn fritters. We had a recipie to follow, so we could make it as best as we could, and it is easy to follow steps. We first took two eggs, flour, and cracked the eggs, with milk, and wisked it together. After that, we put 1/3 of a cup of flour in to the bowl with the mixed egg, and milk, and started mixing it together, until there were no bumps, and bubbles, so it looks smooth. Then we put a can of corn into the egg mix and mixed it together. Once it was mixed, we put oil into a pan on a stove, and left it for a little. Then we put the mix into circles on the pan, and cooked it. After it was cooked on one side, we flipped them over. The it was cooked. We did this again a couple more times, because we had a lot of mix. We also added sweet chilli sause, and lettuce. It was nice. My Partner Pouvie was helping me, and my teacher was Mrs Hekka.

Exploring Maori Place Names

Learning Intention: To create a google map about cities within New Zealand
This week for Maori Language week, we were creating activites, to show our learning about the Maori Culture. For this activity, we were to create a google map, about the cities within New Zealand. We were exploring Maori place names. Azatulah and I chose 5 cities. We chose the 3 main cities in New Zealand. Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch. We also chose 2 different cities, one in the south island and one in the north. Those ones were Dunedin, and Hamilton. We researched information about each city, including information about the history of them, and the Maori names. Auckland is the biggest city in New Zealand, and it's Maori name is Tamaki Makaurau. I learnt a lot of new things, about the Maori names of cities within New Zealand. My partner Azatulah, and I, were working together on this DLO. This was fun, because I like creating google maps, and learning about different cities. What I found interesting, is the Maori name of Hamilton.

Te Reo Maori App

Learning Intention: To create an app that teaches people Te Reo Maori word
This week is Te Reo Maori language week, and we were doing activities. For one of them, you had to create an App, that teaches others Te Reo Maori words. We chose 4 subjects which were cities, days of the week, food, and animals. My favorite one was animals, because I like animals, and there were lots of new Maori names that I didn't know about animals. My partner Azatulah and I were working together for this activity. We also added images next to them, so it looks cool. This was my favorite activity out of them all, because I like creating Interactive DLO's.

Whakatauki Proverbs

Learning Intention: To choose a Whakataui and Research information about it
This week for Maori Language Week, Azatulah, and I we were creating activities. One of them was called a Whakatauki. It is a saying, that reflects the thoughts, values, and advice from the past generations. They use metaphor to help the audience create a picture from those words. I chose a Whakatauki that sounded like it was important to Family, Friends, and Culture. Although it is small, it is precious. This sounds like it could reflect on cultural items. This was an awesome DLO.

Maori History

Learning Intention: To create a DLO about the Maori History
This week we were learning about the Maori History, because of Maori Language Week. We first researched for some information about history about the Maori Culture. Then we created our DLO and filling in boxes of what we found out (something new), and what we already knew. I found a lot of new information, and interesting facts. Something I learnt new, was that New Zealand was the Origin of where the Maori lived. We also researched about the Language. The name of the Maori Language, is called Te Reo Maori. We had fun doing this, because I like creating DLO's and researching or learning new information.

Tuakana Teina

Today, our class Learning Space Two, were helping Ruma Kotahi, and Ruma Korua draw / design patterns, and create string art panels. Winston, Alex and I were a group, and we started by practicing on a peice of paper and an art pencil. Then once we finished practicing our art, we used a peice of chalk to draw on a black peice of paper, and we ended up making different designs, including animals. I loved doing thism because I got to teach and help little kids.

It's Cool To Be Me

Learning Intention: To fill in a DLO about yourself
This week we filled in a DLO about ourselves. It is about your goals, who you want to be when you grow up, things you like doing, your best friends, favorite foods, great things about me, your wish, and qualities you look for in friends. I like this DLO, because people can look at it and learn about me, and what I look for in friends. This was so fun. I hope people will know me more better.

Mrs C Gren

MRS C GREN is an acronym for life process, which stands for (Movement, Respiration, Sensitivity, Cells, Growth, Reproduction, Excretion, Nutrition). This week for Science, we learnt about MRS C GREN, which is a part of Biology, and created a DLO about it. We used collaboration and smart searching by skimming and scanning for keywords to help us select and reject information needed for our DLO. Something name, name, name and I found interesting, was that even living organisms with one single cell can grow. We really enjoyed learning about MRS C GREN.

Family Tree

Learning Intention: To create a DLO that shows your family tree
This week we had a challenge, from a teacher in our school named Mrs Pryde. The challenge was to create the family tree, and under the name of each person, put the Maori version of their name. For an example your Grandad would be Koroua in Maori. So I made my family tree, and named all the people in Maori. I finished, and decided to look at it for a while. My dads family is a biggest so far, because I knew a lot of them, and they all have a lot of brothers and sisters. My mums family I wasn't as sure about, because I had no Idea about a lot of her family. This was fun, because I got to create a family tree, and learn more about my family.

Footprint Observations

Learning Intention: To make observations about the footprints
This week for science, we were learning about observations. An observation is the action of observing or watching the behavior of something. We decided to try to guess what happened by reading pictures, or trying to guess what happened by looking at the pictures. We had three different observations to guess. The first one had big prints, and little prints next to each other. We thought and guessed that it was a mother and it's baby. The second one had two different prints, crossing over each other, and the all going around in a circle. We thought they were fighting, or making a home. We finished and all agreed it was a fight, because only the big tracks were coming out, and not the little ones. The last one had the same except they both went into a circle, but didn't leave. We thought they both hurt themselves, or made a house, because the tracks didn't leave, but instead stayed there. We all agreed again, that they stayed the night there, and made a house. this activity was fun.

Sunflower Painting

Last week, we were doing a painting. We were inspired by a famous art person named Vincent Van Gogh. He was a famous artist, who created cool paintings. He created 900 paintings all together and sold 2 in his lifetime. One of his most famous paintings was called the Sunflowers. It was a pot, with sunflowers, and 2 color backround. So we dicided to do this art. First we started by practicing making flowers on a paper so we knew what to do next time. We used a technique where after you've painted the circle of the flower, you have to drag the paint brush down, and twist it at the end, so it looks like a petal. Then the next day, we started painting our backrounds. We had to paint the bottom light, and the top dark. After that we started to paint the flowers on our paper. We had to paint lightly or else the paint will make the paper soggy. After we painted the flowers onto the paper using the technique, we had to paint a little bit of yellow on the edge of the flower, and let it dry. When it was dry, it looked so cool. I compared it to the Vincent Van Gogh one, and it almost looked the same. I love art, and I can't wait till we do it again.

Food Tech (1)

Learning Intention: To make fried rice

This week for tech, we had a new rotation. My group (Year 8), were doing cooking. Today, we were doing cooking. We were cooking fried rice. The ingredients for this dish was sweet chilli sauce, soy sauce, chicken breast, carrots, raw peppa, and onions. We started by cutting the onions, and grating the carrots, and cutting the chicken breasts. We put them into the pot and sutrred for a long time. Then we added rice to the ingredients, and started mixing. After we finished, we were done. It tasted nice, and I can't wait for next week, when we make Kebabs.

Vincent Van Gogh Timeline

Made with Padlet

Learning Intention: To create a timeline to show the life of Vincent Van Gogh.

This week we were doing art. We were learning about Vincent Van Gogh. We decided to create a timeline about him. We started with when he was born, and where. Then carried on by his school, education, then his jobs, and art. He sold over 900 paintings. He also sold 2 of his paintings only. I thought Vincent Van Gogh is a very talented man. My favorite painting by him was called the Sunflowers. It is one of his most famous paintings. This timeline shows all the information about what he did from when he was born, till he died. He did a lot of paintings, which is what I like about him. He kept painting until he started using light colors, which made his paintings stand out. Azatulah, Matthew, Karlos, and I created this timeline together, and Vincent Van Gogh is now one of my most favorite art people.

Duffy Books In School

Today, we received Duffy books from Duffy. Every year we have multiple chances to pick out Duffy books that we like. We then wait for them to be sent to us. I chose 2 minecraft books, because I like reading them, and they are interesting. They were called: Like an enderman, and Attack of the Gnomes. I love these books, because they tell a story about their life, and what happens to them. We get 2 books each time. We choose 4 books though, 2 most wanted and 2 others, incase if the 2 most wanted books aren't available. Thank you to Duffy, for giving us the chance to choose books for us to read.

Tech

Learning Intention: To program Mbot to follow black line using made codes

Today, this week for tech, we were programming our mbots to follow the black line using our own made codes. All we had to do for this was to name our code, put the code under our code so when we place our code, it will do the code you put for it. I used the names To right, To Left, Back, and Follow for the name of the codes I made. I liked coding because I am good at programming with computers.

Aeronautical Engineering | Pathway

Learning Intention: To find out what qualifications I will need to become an Aeronautical Engineer

Today, I created a DLO about my Job Career pathway. This involves me finding out what I will need t study at school, college, and university. I need to study Mathematics, Aircraft Structures, Engine Systems, Aerodynamics, Thermodynamics, Civil Aviation Laws, Mechanical Process, Metal, or Materials, and Computer-Aided Design. I also needed to find out the experience I needed to become an Aeronautical Engineer. I needed to have worked with something that is involving machinery, technical drawings, and inventing mechanical, or electronic devices, or equipment. I love this subject about jobs, and careers, because I like finding out jobs, or careers I could do when I grow up!

Dance class #1

Today for kiwi sport (PE), we were dancing. Our coach (Miss Rebecca), Taught us about dance. She was talking about how dance is expressive, involves movement, being creative, and there is no wrong way to dance, because anything that involves your body moving, is a dance. So the topic of this weeks Dance, was Me and my body. This was about getting to move our bodies by moving around in different ways. First we started our session with a warm up. We did this by moving around our hall, and dancing. We were in a big circle for this. After that, we did a challenge where we have to dance until music stops which we have to make a shape that is called out! This was fun!

Visit To Life Education

This week we went to Life Education. We went in groups. I was in group 1 which is the volleyball team. The first session was about our Hauora and our brain. First we watched videos about Kapi, and what’s happening to him. He was getting bullied, which caused him to play video games all day in the weekend, not cleaning his room, or even having a shower. Next we learnt about the brain, and the brain cells. There are about billions of brain cells, and you think 7,000 thoughts a day. That was what we learnt for the first session. The next session we learnt about how bad drugs are to our brains. We also sent a letter to Kapi, about how he can help himself build his walls back from Hauora. I learnt a lot of new things.

Science | Summary

L.I to summaries the information

This week for our reading topic (science), we created a summary using the information from our post it notes. In our summary, we skimmed and scanned to find the important keywords. We also shared our ideas and collaborated to create our summary. For our next activity, we used a question dice to help us create three interesting questions that we wanted to research. We all worked together in these activities.

The three most interesting questions are:

  • When was science discovered?

  • Why is science important?

  • How is science different from the past to today?

Sience | Main Ideas

L.I To find the three most vital ideas from the information to help us find the answer “What is science”.

This week our reading topic is science. We watched a video which helped us understand what science is. While watching the video, we took notes, by selecting and rejecting the information. We used the information to identify the three most vital ideas. We shared our ideas among each other and negotiated on where to put the information on, whether it was 4 very important ideas or three most vital ideas. We also collaborated and respected each other's opinions for this activity.

We think the three most vital ideas are:
Science is an answer and has the power to destroy and heal.
Science includes physics, chemistry and biology.
Science is discovering new things.

Hauora Poster

Learning Intention: To create an information poster that explains the four walls of Hauora

This week we were learning about Hauora. Hauora is a Maori Philosophy of health, and well being, that is vital to New Zealand (Aotearoa). I  created a poster to tell you about Hauora, and the 4 walls. The walls are Taha Tinana, Taha Whanau, Taha Hinegaro, and Taha Wairua. I created this poster to show and describe each of these 4 walls. Thanks for reading.

Making Connections To Problem Solving

Learning Intention: To explore problem solving

Today, our internet connection was very slow, so we used problem solving to set ourselves up for the day, by creating a Tangram puzzle. We started off with a piece of a4 paper and a pair of scissors. We used the scissors, to create the shapes required to make our Tangram. The shapes we created were triangles, a square, and a parallelogram. We used those shapes to create a picture of an animal, after cutting out all of the shapes. I started to create a horse. It was a bit challenging, because I tried to figure out which shape I were to use, and which sized one. Next I tried another one. Next I tried the duck, and it was a bit easier. We then learned about the Tangrams, or the history about them. Tangrams were a used in the 18th century, created by China, to cure Boredom for people in ships, who were transporting equipment or materials on trading ships. After that, we attempted to make harder shapes. The shapes this time were cats, and dogs. I tried one dog, and one cat. I was proud of myself, because I was able to create both a cat, and a dog. I enjoyed learning about, and making a Tangram puzzle, to create the shape of an animal.

Maths Negative Numbers

Learning Intention: To add and subtract negative numbers

This week for maths, we created a DLO on how to add and subtract negative numbers. We first completed a couple of sheets with addition and subtraction problems with negative numbers. We then got into groups, and worked together to create a DLO about any question from what we had from out sheets. The question we did was -4 + 6 which makes 2. This was easy, and I can't wait for multiplying and dividing negative numbers.

10-5-7-10-10 Writing

Learning Intention: To use 10-5-7-10-10 to write a story

Today, we were using the 10-5-7-10-10 stratergy, used in reading or writing, to write a story. The story was made by planning what I was going to write, by looking at a picture of a mountain, sunset, or sunries, which made me think about a hiking story and getting a photo. I also made a problem in my story, to make it more interesting. My character of the story is named Azatulah. He is the person who is my main character if ny story. He is the one in trouble and needs help.

Mountain Hiking Story

“I’ve been waiting for so long!” “It’s been hours, and now I'm ready to get my photo of a beautiful sunset.” Azatulah took his tent and camp down. Now he’s ready to rock and roll. So, Azatulah grabbed his climbing equipment, and headed off towards the steep top.

On his way, he said to himself, “this place looks towering, way taller than I thought.” Anyway, he took his equipment out of his backpack and case. He sets up the rope, and lays out the new Technology he barely knows how to use. Next he throws the rope down to the ground, from the top of the mountain. It was a long fall, so he knew he was putting himself in danger.

Once he was ready, he grabbed his $400 camera, and his tools. “LESH GOO!” He attached all the gear to himself, and started to descend, down the mountain. The sun just started to rise, which was the perfect time. Azatulah’s goal was to get to ¾ of the mountain's height, just above the other one, so he can get a 2 in 1 shot. His original plan was to get the sunrise, but the sun being just above the mountain, was a dream photo.

Just as he pulled his camera out, he felt something above him. “What is that feeling?” He then realized something was wrong with his gear above. The technology must have a problem. He knew the only solution was to keep going down the mountain. If he went up, his weight would pull it down even more, which could cause the technology to break, and if it breaks, he will fall, because the rope would detach. He now has a lot of issues to solve.

The only one way to do so. Climbing down the mountain, and very slow, in case it breaks. Before he made his decision, he called the mountain rescue, and the police. Now all he has to do is get himself to safety. “Almost there?” sighed Azatulah, in relief. “I’m going to remain calm, and wait for rescue.

Finally the rescue team arrived. They climbed to him, so he knew once they reached me, he was safe. But then something horrible happened. The rope cut, so he grabbed on to the rescuers rope. And he was so frozen. They finally descended to safety, at the bottom of the mountain. “What happened?” Azatulah asked the rescuers. “Maybe there was an error with the technology, or something must have snapped while you were climbing. Azatulah was scared, but he still got his photos. His goal was now complete. “Next, I am going to climb Mount everest!” Said Azatulah in excitement.

Experimenting With Ultraviolet Light

Learning Intention: To find the most effective UV filter

LS2 has been trialling the electronic sensors, for the Kiwrious project. We are working with Suranga, Sonia, Evan, Dawn, and Yvonne from the AHL at Auckland University. I found that the UV light makes the UV light detector, go up to about 9.5 or higher, for detecting UVI. I found that the red paper was the most effective filter to keep Zally safe from the UV light, when testing the sensor. My DLO will show you about how I did this. This experiment was fun, and exciting because I love science. I can't wait for next time, when we get to do something else with the sensors.

5-7-10 Writing

Learning Intention: To write creativly using 5-7-10

Today for writing, we were learning about 5-7-10. It is a process you can use, to write a story. The 5-7-10, stands for 5 minutes, 7 minutes, and 10 minutes. What does that mean? The 5 minutes, is how much time to write as much as you can. The 7 minutes, is how much time you have to talk to your partner about your writing. The 10 minutes is how much time to continute your writing after talking to each other. First during the 5 minutes, I wrote about the storm starting, and them being worried, Then I walked about my story during the 7 minute part. Then I finished off with a good ending and the rest. This was fun and exciting because I like reading my own writing.

Lightning never strikes twice, does it?
That was the question that occupied their frightened minds as they crouched, huddling together, next the pile of dusty sacks in the base of the windmill. The storm finally unleashes its power, forcing the kids to move closer into the dark. Leaning against the wall as rain rapidly pours down. They haven't been this worried before, maybe something’s wrong, Jeff thinks this isn’t a good place to stay. Spencer informs Jeff about using this old place for years, but it has never been destroyed. The terrified kids now wonder what will happen next. As the storm silently calms down, the lightning strikes, which causes the roaring thunder to rise. All that was heard was booming thunder, like it was attempting to overpower an erupting volcano. Jeff was completely frozen, like he was preserved for dinner inside a freezer. Spence was too troubled to be scared, this catastrophic event was making him believe this spot was a bad one. The lightning strikes again, and now Spencer is confused. Lightning strikes twice? Eventually after a poor day, the loud, annoying trouble stops. Spencer creeps towards the opening, investigating the area from inside, making sure there was no more superstorm.

Farewell Term 2

This term, was a fun, and exciting term. I got to play Volleyball, work together with new people, and practice my leader skills, by presenting messages to the school during assembly, and just going to school to see all the students and children after being in lockdown for 4-5 weeks. The thing I found most challenging, was waking up early in the morning to do online lessons for school, on google meets. The thing I found most fun this term, was the team work I did this year, and aspecially the maths. Next term, I will create a blogpost about how I felt, being back to school after an enjoying holiday. I loved this term, and I can't wait for the holidays to start. Congratulations to everyone who has been working hard this term, in our school, or from anywhere. Thanks for visiting my blog this term, and have a wonderful, amazing, fun, awesome, and active holidays. :)

Last Volleyball Session

Learning Intention: To use all 4 skills learnt, to try to win volleyball games

This week, was the last week for kiwisport (Volleyball). First we went over all the skills we learnt, to check if everyone had an idea, and knew what to do. Then we got into 2 groups and our group picked one server, to serve the ball to everyone else. Everyone in our team had to hit the ball back over the net, until everyone was on the other side. After that, we plaed king of the court. You basicly have one team on the king side, and other teams battle each other, and the last team on the king court wins. This volleyball sessions were so fun, and I can't wait to find out what our next kiwisport is.

Tech Reflection (Robotics)

Learning Intention: To program our mbots' to move around on the black lined track

This week for tech, we were programing our mbots to move in the direction of the black lined track. The track was about 9 meters long, but it was a track so it had lots of curves. My fastest time was 41.99 seconds, and my distance each second was 0.21 meters. And I came 6th place. I was also able to finish the whole track. The tracks distance was exactly 8.9 meters long. First we practiced by using the same code from last week, that was the same as the figure track. The code was the same, and I had a screen shot of the code, so I can try to do the same thing again. This week was fun, and the top 3 winners, got chocolate. (^-^)

Venn Diagram | DLO 5

Learning Intention: To find out the similarities and differences between Matariki then and now?

This week for inquiry, we were creating DLO's (Digital Learning Objects), about the work we created. We first learnt about Matariki by reading from online sites, and remembering information from videos. Next we started to create DLO's about each subject we learnt about for the Matariki work. This DLO is about the differences and similarities bwtween now and then of the Matariki celebration. What is Matariki? Matariki is a Maori celebration for a new year. That means a new year, and a good time for crops. I liked this DLO, because you can learn about what Matariki is.

Harvesting | DLO 4

Learning Intention: To explain what tools they used to harvest?

This week for inquiry, we were creating DLO's (Digital Learning Objects), about the work we created. We first learnt about Matariki by reading from online sites, and remembering information from videos.
Next we started to create DLO's about each subject we learnt about for the Matariki work. This DLO is about the harvesting of the Maori for Matariki. What is Matariki? Matariki is a Maori celebration for a new year. That means a new year, and a good time for crops. I liked this DLO, because you can learn about what Matariki is.

Importance Of Matariki | DLO 3

Learning Intention: To explain what Matariki is and why we have it?

This week for inquiry, we were creating DLO's (Digital Learning Objects), about the work we created. We first learnt about Matariki by reading from online sites, and remembering information from videos.
Next we started to create DLO's about each subject we learnt about for the Matariki work. This DLO is about what is important in Matariki. What is Matariki? Matariki is a Maori celebration for a new year. That means a new year, and a good time for crops. I liked this DLO, because you can learn about what Matariki is.

Matariki Summary | DLO 2

Learning Intention: To explain in fewer words what Matariki is about?

This week for inquiry, we were creating DLO's (Digital Learning Objects), about the work we created. We first learnt about Matariki by reading from online sites, and remembering information from videos.
Next we started to create DLO's about each subject we learnt about for the Matariki work. This DLO is a summary in our own words, about what we think Matariki is and how they celebrate it. What is Matariki? Matariki is a Maori celebration for a new year. That means a new year, and a good time for crops. I liked this DLO, because you can learn about what Matariki is.

What is Matariki | DLO 1

Learning Intention: To use our knowledge to explain what Matariki is?

Tech Robotics (Week 11)

Learning Intention: To code mbot to move in the shape of a star

This is a google drawing of what I did at tech. My favorite part of tech today, was the coding part, because I liked a challenge where you had to try your best to get the code right to make it move correctly in the star shape. This DLO doesn't have much of a blurb because mostly everything that I did at tech is written on the DLO.

Periscope

Learning Intention: To explain how periscopes work?

Mr Johnston came and taught us about what periscopes are, who uses them, and how they are used.
We found out that the angle of incidence, equals the angle of reflection. That means if the light hits the mirror at 45 degrees, it reflects the light back at 45 degrees. This was fun because I liked using the periscopes and finding things interesting about it. I also like using mirrors to write my name backwards.

Polynesian Panthers | DLO

Today, Fau and I created a DLO on the Polynesian Panthers. We first talked about the Polynesian Panthers, by explaining who they are. We then talked about the problem that was happening. The Polynesian Panthers, is a group formed by 6 polynesian people, who stood up for the rights of the polynesian people. Then we talked about the issue. The issue was that the New Zealand people were mad at the people from different countries, because they were either overstayers, or they were breaking the rules. I liked learing about this, because I didn't know this happened right here, in Auckland, New Zealand.

Evaluating | Polynesian Panthers

Today we created an evaluation about the Polynesian Panthers. This was about forming an opinion about what we think about this. We chose 2 of the most important ideas from the text, to use as out opinion. Once we did so, we asked questions, that we wanted to know. I didn't ask questions, because I had no questions that I wanted to know. Lastly we had our opinion of the polynesian panthers having right to protest. We said they had right to protest, as they wanted their messages to be heared, to help educate people about their culture, and to be treated eaqually. This is why we want to support the Polynesian Panthers.

How To: Make a Graph

Learning Intention: To to analyse our blog post data to help set blogging goals.
This week for maths, I used my statistical information on my blog to help me set goals for 2020. Before I can publish a blog post, I need to complete the task. I worked out the average amount of blog posts I made for each month, using my addition and division skills. I then used that data to set a realistic, achievable, blogging goal. I love blogging, because I get to share my work with people from around the world.

Summarising Wahine Disaster

L.I to summarise the text of the Wahine Disaster

Today, we were focusing on making a summarising DLO about the text Wahine Disaster. We wrote down twenty most important words, six most important words, and a summary to sum up the text in our own words about the Wahine Disaster.

Online School Assembly

Today, I was presenting at a school assembly. I was talking about the school, and keeping safe while presenting, as the head students. This was the main reason, I was a the live stream. At the stream, the principle gave out certificates and badges and talked about how school was going. We also sang some songs. This is a good way in my opinion, to attend assembly, without having to sit next a lot of other students.

Tech Robotics

Learning Intention: To code our mbots, to use ultrasonic sensing

This week for tech, we were learning ultrasonic with our mbots. We used a program called mblock, to code our robots. First we tested our robots, to see if they worked. By doing this, it would help us a lot, so if our robot doesn't work, we can get another one instead of finding out later on. Then we made a copy of a google slide, to put our information of the ultrasonic on. Next we used some fimiliar codes, to make our mbot move backwards. This is when it senses something, than it desides to do whatever you command.

Cityscape of New York

Learning Intention: To write a description of my cityscape using prepositions

As unusual as it seems, the Empire State building gets hit 23 times by lightning each year. Wow! That's a fascinating fact. Just to the left, from the middle of my cityscape, you can see the Statue of Liberty. It is a prominent structure on the New York skyline. The Statue of Liberty, is located on the Liberty Island. An interesting fact about the Statue of Liberty, is that one of the four materials that it is made from, is gold. Which part is made of gold? The torch that is being held by the amazing sculpture, was covered by gold when it was built. You can also see the tall buildings. The tallest building in my cityscape is the One Trade Center. Did you know, the One Trade Center, is 546 meters high, to the tip? New York is filled with tall, big, and attractive buildings, all crammed together. There are a lot more buildings in New York. My favorite thing about New York is that it is filled with bright colorful lights.

My cityscape is New York city. I like it, because it has a lot of tall buildings, that make it look like a big city. My backround, is a cool backround. I used the cool colors purple, pink, and blue. My aim was to make a galaxy alike backround, just like a night time sky. This is very cool, fun, and exciting. I love art, as I do this at home, and school. This is an awesome peice of art, and I am proud of myself.

Using Exponents

L.I To understand exponents

Today, Lukah, Jayden and I, worked together as a group so solve a Hydra maths challenge. We first put our stratergy (how we worked out the question) on the DLO. Before we did this, we learnt about exponents. What is an exponent? An exponent of a number says how many times to use that number in a multiplacation question. The question was how many heads would the hydra have at the end of three and 10 days. Each day we multiplied the head by 2. Which I got to 1024, at 10 days. We put the main information on our DLO, so people who look at it, can understand the main part, of the challenge. I liked this challenge, because it was a bit hard, which I like. I also love maths, which is my favorite part of school.

Robotics

Today for tech, we were learning about coding, with Mrs Ferguson at Tamaki College. Our challenge, was to code the m bot, on the m block site, to move in a square. We used the programing codes, Repeat, Wait for seconds, Move, Show, and other codes. I liked coding and watching my robot sucseed. I also used lights, to show that I was indicating to turn right. I moved in a square, indicated, and did a victory dance, and move, at the end. This was fun, because I havnt been to tech in a long time, and I love coding, which is one of my most favortite techs except food tech, to go to.

Ancestor Poem

Learning intention: To write a poem to describe your ancestors using literary devices of alliteration, onomatopoeia, metaphor, simile, hyperbole, and rhyme.
This week, we were writing poems. It was based on our ancestors. I wrote about them, and my culture. It is powerful, and it brings back memories. I used the 5 senses, powerful words, emotional words, and phrases, to make my poem stronger. My favorite part of my poem is where I talk about my ancestors travelling around the world, to find their home, and the path of success. I enjoy writing poems, because I like writing, and It is exciting. I love my poem, and I am really proud of myself.
