Family Tree

Learning Intention: To create a DLO that shows your family tree
This week we had a challenge, from a teacher in our school named Mrs Pryde. The challenge was to create the family tree, and under the name of each person, put the Maori version of their name. For an example your Grandad would be Koroua in Maori. So I made my family tree, and named all the people in Maori. I finished, and decided to look at it for a while. My dads family is a biggest so far, because I knew a lot of them, and they all have a lot of brothers and sisters. My mums family I wasn't as sure about, because I had no Idea about a lot of her family. This was fun, because I got to create a family tree, and learn more about my family.

Maori: Simpsons Family Tree

This week for maori we created a simpsons family tree. We created this activity so we could focus on learning maori family phrases. Ko wai te papa o Lisa? Means who is the papa of Lisa, which is homer simpsons. These are the phrases we learnt, but there are many more like who is your mum, or grandad or sister. I liked this activity because I learnt new maori words and it included the simpsons.

Maori

Image result for in the beginning book

This week for our first maori session for week 1 term 4 we were learning about the book called: In the beginning. We first read the story about in the beginning then we watched a video that tells us about the story. The story is about the 6 gods called: Tu, Tawhirimate, Rongo, Haurima, Tane and Tangaroa. Tu, Tawhirimate, Rongo, Haurima and Tangaroa all tried to split their farther and mother apart but they couldn't so Tane said hell do it and just laying on his back and pushing up with his legs he split them apart. We also sung a song that the people sung when the people came back from war. Then researched about the Rohe New Zealand and Trible areas of New Zealand. You Can see the site. Maori Lesson

Today we had our Maori lesson with Mrs Fire Odi. We learnt about 2 Taniwha called: Mak-e and Whaitaitai who lived in wellington. Then lived close by the harbor but whaitaitai broke out by smashing through the rocks and dirt to get across the Barbour. Mak-e was just staying there hoping whaitaitai would come back because Mak-e couldn't go through the tides. Then he died. We also had to try to make a paper fish with 2 strips. It was hard but I decided to just make my own by making it by random, We had fun!
