Karlos and I stood at the peaceful Tamaki River. The seagulls were flying above us and expensive yachts were bobbing up and down on the calm water. We smelt rotting shellfish and it made our stomach turn.
Suddenly Karlos went to close to the jetty and SPLASH! He was waving his arms and calling for help. His eyes were as huge as flying saucers. My friend was in huge trouble because he was not a confident swimmer.
I went looking for help when I saw an old rope under some wood.I threw it to Karlos.I said,”Grab on to that old raft and hold the rope.” Karlos floated down to the shore and landed safely.
As we were walking home I told Karlos how scared I had felt while he was in the water.
“Next time you shouldn’t walk too close to the edge of the jetty.”
“ You do not need to remind me of that because I have learnt my lesson.” he replied in an embarrassed voice.
