Rhythm Interactive's Visit To PBS

Today Johnny from rhythm interactive visited our whole school. He was here to tell us about drumming and how together we can make a change. A drum is a type of instrument. Then we started with a simple beat using the phrase he said. We (Learning Space 2) buddied up and helped another class (Junior class) so that they would understand how to drum. Johnny was drumming with a drum called a djembe drum (African drum). We were listening to and following a beat / pattern / rhythm that johnny made with his djembe. Johnny said to us "if you can say it you can drum it" which meant that if you can say it then you can drum what was said (speak and copy). Somethine I found fun was making a funky beat because I got to go crazy while drumming. What I found challenging was trying to do the long drum beats. I liked today when Johnny from rhythm interactive came to our school. I enjoyed it because I never drummed before and because I learnt some new beats that I can make with a drum. Tech Reflection

Today at Tech we were drawing our designs for our game that we are going to start making next week. I am making a number moving game. You have to spin the number wheel and what ever number it lands on then that is how many spaces your character goes forward towards the finish line. Next week I will be starting to make this 3d game and I think that if I make it 3d then I can make the charactersa and the number wheel 3d. The board where the spaces, finish and start line is will be flat (2d). This game will be good for me because I like to vs people using this game. This tech session was all about planning the game and materials needed to make a 3d or 2d board game.

Kiwi Can WK 8

This week at kiwi can we were learning about integrity. We first started the session with our energiser was a game where we had to protect the person behind us and the person in the front had to tag the other person at the back of someone. I was with Rhys and we were first blind folded then we had our eyes open to see which was harder or challenging. Next we talked about how integrity helps us understand why we shouldn't do bad things. Then we played our activity called trust fall. It was when we were hanging on each other then we (our partners) had to lean back and we both had to trust other. After that we had a GKQ (General Knowledge Question) Game. We went around a circle and I beat 4 people and lost at the 5th person. We were kind of tired at kiwi can, but I really enjoyed it.

What to do with fish?

What should we do with fish that we catch? Do we leave it or do we take it? People aren't being respectful and taking more fish. Well an interesting fact is that you should pick up a fish that you catch with a wet hand towel. This is because touching it with your hands could lead to taking off their coating which keeps them alive when they’re out of the water. Another interesting fact is that if you catch a fish and bring it and it is under or oversized then you could get a fine or even get your boat confiscated. Well this is why you should know what to do with fish.

The thing that you need to know is that you only take the amount of fish you can eat. Taking all the fish can lead to fish being instinct. Some fish catchers like to look for birds because the birds can tell you where fish are because they can see fish and will go down to the water to catch some. Sometimes you see plastic around in the waters which fish could eat so you can pick up that plastic. Another thing is If you go fishing and catch a fish you will need to make sure that you have a fish ruler. The reason is that if you don’t have a fishing ruler then you can’t measure your fish to make sure it is the correct size to take it. A snapper (fish) has to be 30 cm to be able to take it.

Whatever you do don’t take under and over sized fish because you could be taking away most of the fish in our oceans. If you take an undersized fish then they won’t have time to grow and won’t have a long lasting life in the water. Same for the oversized fish, but if you take oversized fish then you are taking away the opportunity for them to breed. If they breed then they can make more fish for our oceans.

Taking under or over sized fish can be a problem. If people keep catching and taking any sized fish it can lead to a problem which can include depleting the number of fish in our oceans or even not being able to have foods that include fish.

Ballet

Yesterday we (LS2) got a free chance to do ballet. Thanks to Mrs Jones she gave us an opportunity to ask a ballet dancer Chloe to come from Wellington to Auckland to teach us ballet for the whole 2nd block of school. We were excited for this to happen because no one in this class had done ballet before. I was kind of shy to do this because I thaught it was going to be a different ballet, but I was completly wrong. We all had fun during this ballet session. We were learning about different swan moves as we were going to be using dance moves we learnt to put together a ballet white swan black swan dance. I found the middle part where we had to roll over and get into the chicken position because I wasn't able to keep up in time. What I found fun was the ending when we got to get into some posing positions and my group was in a line from smallest to biggest and we were doing the flying position. We would like to say a big thanks to Chloe form RNZB (Royale, New Zealand, Ballet). We really enjoyed this and appreciate this opportunity.

Tech Session 3

Last week Friday we (Year 7's) went to tech for our 3rd session. We were talking about games that could be possible to create. My group of 3 (Pua, Jayden and I) came up with the games we thought would be possible to make which were a maze or tic tac toe / noughts and crosses. We decided that we would like to make a maze more than making noughts and crosses. After that Mrs Ferguson told us this site called tinkercad.com. It is a site where you can learn about 3D designs. I am on a stage called making holes. Next week we will be using this site for tech because we might need this site for making a 3d game. I think that this time for tech we might be making a 3d game.

Waltzing Matilda Inferring

Last week Thursday we were drawing a picture of what you see in your mind about the waltzing matilda poem. I drew a detailed picture that explains what the story looks like exactly. We then drew our pictures of the poem and we showed each other which one had more detail then the other. I had the billabong (Water hole), a coolibah tree, a swagman (Seasonal worker) under the coolibah tree,  His tucker bag (Food bag) and him singing and some little fish jumping out and back in the billabong. This activity was meant for everyone to infer. For this activity we were Inferring (Taking what we knew) to draw a picture of what you think the poem waltzing matilda looks like. This activity really helped me imagine what the poem waltzing matilda looks like.

Waltzing Matilda Summary

L.I to create a summary of a poem called waltzing matilda
Last week for reading, we started an activity. The activity was to read the poem Waltzing Matilda by Banjo Paterson. After reading the poem, we needed to get into pairs (I was with Jack), and analyse the poem. With this information we then needed to go through a couple of questions. This included which version of the poem did you prefer, the original or new version? What do you think the poem was about? And what Literary Devices could the poet use to paint a vivid image in our heads? Once those questions were answered, the final step was to create a DLO that would explain what the poem was about in a summary. To help keep our ideas in order, a template DLO was given to us which we could use to store our ideas. For this activity I worked Jack, and we had a lot of fun.

Strengthening connections to maths language

Today my group (Me, Jayden and Jonathan) and I worked on this Maths vocabulary activity. It was made by Whaea Donna to help kids understand what some maths words meant. Mrs Anderson asked us what a plane is. Everyone thought it was a flying vehicle but because she was talking about the flat surface plane, all of us were wrong. This was a really good way to show us that words might mean something different in maths. If we didn't know a word Jayden would go on the explore tool to find out the meaning. I would drag the ones I knew and the ones that Jayden and Jonathan didn't know into the bottom section. Jonathan was helping me by dragging the words that go in the top section. After we finished it all of us had a good understanding of most of the maths words. Jayden, Jonathan and I worked collaborativly together as a group to complete this activity.

Student Led Conference

Yesterday Wednesday was the schools student led conference. I brang my mum to my class. My brother Kaleb also had a little look in my class as well. The student led conference was about bringing a family member to your classroom to show them the work that you created so far this year at school. I showed my mum my wooden train that I made at tech and the other work on the wall (Reading, Writing, Maths, Inquiry, Science Experiments and Some Others). My mum really enjoyed the work I created so far this year and She is proud of me and so am I. Just before we went to go to my other brother Leroy's class to do his student led conference I got to show my teacher (Mrs Anderson) my leopard gecko lizard. She said that it was pretty cool. Maybe on a Thursday sometime during this year I will be able to show my class the lizard. This student led conference was actually cool and entertaining showing my mum my work.

Tech Session 2

Today was our (Year 7s) 2nd session in Mrs Ferguson's Art class. We were learning about shapes, tones and 3d shapes. We first finished our toys that make us think DLO. Next we got a peice of paper, pencil and a ruler. Then we used our pencil to find 3 shades from it. Mrs Ferguson explained that the tone depends on how much you press on the pencil or color you are using. After that we drew a 3d cube. Then we used the light, medium and hard shades to fill in each side (3 sides which was enough for 1 each). If we could do that we could carry on with the next part which we could use a color to shade light, medium and hard to see the next out come. Lastly it was time to go. So we thanked Mrs Ferguson and ran to the bus in the cold wet weather which was quite funny.

Literary Devices

Here is the link to my DLO: Click Here
Today I had finished my work of Literary Devices. I made 6 literary devices and they are Simile, Hyperbole, Metaphor, Personification, Alliteration and Onomatopoeia. Next I then made a simple explanation of what each literary device is. For an example a simile is a description of 2 objects that uses like or as (Usain Bolt is like a Cheetah).  Then I made some headings for each literary device so people would know which is which. Lastly I went to find some images of each literary device so then I could make my information cool.
