RWC Stadium Capacities

L.I to create a DLO showing one of the questions for the RWC Stadium Capacitie activity
Today for Writing we made a DLO showing one of the questions about the RWC Stadium Cpacitie Activity. We (Matthew and I) created a DLO about how we worked out how much the stadium capacity be if all Japanese stadiums we full for every RWC game. The answer was 17, 835, 880 (Seventeen Million, Eight hundred Thousand Thirty Five, Eight Hundred and Eighty). We used the lattice method and a simple maths multiplying and adding stratergy to solve the qurstion. This was a bit challenging, but we completed the task.

Using Commas: Cultural Celebration

Cultural Celebration Writing

‘Let me tell you about’ my favorite cultural celebration. My favorite celebration is halloween. I am always excited for halloween because I get lollies. I get home from school, then get ready in my scary costume. Halloween is in the afternoon on Thursday, October 31. My mum does special effects on my face as a scary character. I like zombies, so she makes me as a zombie with an arrow in its eye. She needed fake blood, make-up and an arrow. After my mum does my face I am ready to scare people.

We get into the car, and go to different places around Auckland, Panmure, so I can scare people. I scare people, say trick or treat, and get a full bag of lollies thinking, Halloween is the best celebration, it’s my favorite. I come home, eat lollies, and enjoy the rest of the night with my family.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Today we were writing about a Cultural Celebration to practice using commas. We use commas when we need a rest in a sentence, list things, Seperate Dialogue, City / Suburb, Before FANBOYS, Date / Year and, Introductory words. I used over 10 commas in my writing and used 6 out of 7 commas in places. Now I know where to put commas.

Pop-Up Globe Visit

On Friday we got a big surprise from pop-up globe. They had talked about the acts / plays

they do. As they were talking about the plays we got excited. They gave us an example of

a William Shakespeare sentence. They told us how long plays were (around 2 hours). Did

you know that William shakespeare wrote over 20 plays? People could be in the play called

the fourth wall.

Provocation

A provocation is an action or a speech that triggers strong feelings about a topic. Recently a mojor supermarket chain announced it will no longer sell energy drinks to kids under the age of 16 years old. My opinion is recorded in my DLO that shows both perspecgives. What is you opinion ans why?

Explanation: Should NZ Ban Plastic Straws?

I think NZ should ban plastic straws because it is harming our sea creatures. There are plastic in our oceans and plastic straws are part of this pollution. This is bad, This is terrible, this is outrageous. Would you like it if you had a pond filled with fish and saw one of those fish going towards a dangerous straw meal? That ‘s Ridiculous.

Plastic straws can harm our sea animals which is bad. If a sea animal eats a plastic straw then people will have to do surgery to get the straw out. There was a sea turtle that had a straw stuck up its nose. A man on a boat came by as he saw the poor turtle, he then had to pull the straw out. Out of all the plastic in our oceans, 0.025 percent / % of that are straws. Wow that's a lot of straws. If a straw gets into an animal's digestive system, the animal could choke which can cause breathing problems or even sadly, death.

NZ should ban plastic straws because other countries like the United States have one of the worlds biggest plastic straw pollution. NZ shouldn’t be the country that is named after the most plastic straw polluted country in the world. It’s disgusting to see straws people used to drink and left on the beach and washed out to shore. Scientists had estimated about 3.8 billion straws pollute the ocean.

Imagine going to the fish and chip shop. You have an order for chips and a fish. You get the food and open it. It has plastic straws in it. How would you feel what would you do? What if it was a hot day and you wanted to go to the beach. The beach is filled up with straws. How would you feel if you couldn’t go for a swim? Because the ocean is as big as 361.9 billion square kilo meters the plastic straws would be about 1/200 of that.

NZ is a country that is surrounded by the ocean. What if there were no more sea animals near our country. What would you do to save the sea life from plastic straws? This is why I believe that we should ban plastic straws. This is why you should agree.

New Zealand News Articles

Each day, newspaper editors make desisions everyday about which current event stories they will run.  We explored that different types of current events that are happening in NZ, thought about why the story made the news and plotted the location on a google map. We were creating a Map DLO that shows differet types of Articles that happend in New Zealand. The types of articles we were to find were Timeliness, Relevance, Magnitude, Unexpectedness, Impact, Reference to someone iportant or famous, Oddity, Conflict, Reference to something negative, Continuity, Emotions and Progress. The most shocking one I found was the measles outbreak with more that 1,000 people affected. My Group (Matthew, Karlos and I) found 7 news articles that took place in New Zealand. The most unusual one I found was that Russia Accidently replaced New Zealand With Japan on their news channel. Our Task was to find current events that were happening or that happened in New Zealand so that we could grow our knowledge about what has been happening or what has happened in New Zealand.
